Okay, so, I was strollin’ through the city the other day, right? Just mindin’ my own business, when I see this specialty store. Now, I’m a bit of a watch guy. Not like a super-collector or anything, but I appreciate a good timepiece. And what do I see in the window? A two-tone blue Rolex Submariner. This thing was shinin’, catchin’ the light, lookin’ all sorts of beautiful.
But here’s the kicker, it was labeled as a “high imitation”. Now, I’ve heard about these high imitation watches. They’re gettin’ really good these days, like, almost too good. It got me thinkin’, could I even tell the difference? Could anyone? This one, it had that heavy feel, just like my buddy’s real Rolex. The band was all shiny, and the blue and the metal looked perfect.
I went inside, just to check it out, you know? The guy behind the counter, he was cool. Told me all about it. Said these high imitation joints are made with some decent stuff, not the cheap plastic junk. But, obviously, they ain’t made of the same fancy stuff as the real deal. It is not like the Rolex Pepsi which is not just a statement of style but a functional aid for pilots navigating the skies.
The Price Difference is Huge
We’re talkin’ a massive difference. Like, we’re talkin’ the price of a used car versus, you know, way, way less. I mean, who has $15,000 to $20,000 for a real Rolex Submariner? I sure as heck don’t.
So, I started lookin’ at it closer. Tried to spot any flaws. They try to copy the style, the hands, the little numbers, everything. Honestly, from a distance, you wouldn’t know. Even up close, it’s tough. This thing even had that satisfying “click” when you turned the bezel.
The Decision
I was tempted, I ain’t gonna lie. I tried it on, walked around the store with it. Felt good on the wrist. But in the end, I didn’t pull the trigger. Something about it just didn’t sit right with me. Maybe it’s the principle of the thing. Maybe it’s just me. I don’t know. I told the guy I needed to think about it. The blue dial 2 tone sub is going for about $1000 more than the black version.
But, man, those high imitation watches, they’re a whole different ball game now. Makes you think, doesn’t it? Makes you question things. What do you guys think? Would you ever buy a high imitation Rolex? Lemme know in the comments!
