So, I decided to remake that fancy Yves Saint Laurent YSL LE CARRÉ SATCHEL BAG. Yeah, the “Original order” one. Sounds kinda bougie, don’t it? But hey, I was curious and figured, why not give it a shot?

First, I spent a good chunk of time just staring at pictures of the original bag. You know, getting a feel for its vibe. This ain’t just any bag; it’s got that “I’m simple but classy” thing going on. I noticed it’s all about that sleek, boxy shape with the rounded corners. And that flap – gotta get that right. It is a contemporary classic for sure!

Next, I started sketching. I’m no artist, but I managed to scribble down the basic shape and dimensions. I wanted to make sure I had the proportions right before I even touched any material. This part took a while. Lots of erasing and starting over. The real deal is probably made by some fancy machines, but me? I’m doing this the old-fashioned way.

Then came the fun part – picking out the materials. I went to this local shop, you know, the kind that has rolls and rolls of different fabrics and leathers. After feeling a bunch of stuff, I found this really nice, smooth black leather. It felt right, you know? Like it had that same luxurious feel as the original. Reminded me of those fancy Saint Laurent cross-body bags and satchels pay homage to the brand’s sleek Parisian base. The Loulou and Kate chain wallets, oh, and those Envelope cross-bodies too.

I also grabbed some sturdy lining material and some gold-colored hardware. The original has this little square buckle thing, and I found something similar. It’s not exact, but it’s close enough. I figured that since Saint Laurent competes globally with the most high-end exclusive luxury brands and occupies one of the top positions, I should try to make this bag of mine to be on par with them.

Cutting and Sewing

  • Cutting the leather was nerve-wracking! I measured everything like five times before making a single cut. I didn’t want to mess up that expensive leather.
  • Slowly but surely, I cut out all the pieces according to my sketches. Then came the sewing.
  • I don’t have one of those fancy industrial sewing machines, just my trusty old one. It took some time, but I managed to sew the pieces together.
  • Let me tell you, sewing straight lines on leather is a lot harder than it looks!

Putting the lining in was a bit tricky, too. I wanted it to look neat and tidy, so I took my time. Finally, I attached the hardware. That little buckle was a pain to get on, but I managed it eventually.

And there it was. My homemade version of the YSL LE CARRÉ SATCHEL BAG. It’s not perfect, of course. There are a few wonky stitches here and there. But you know what? I’m pretty darn proud of it. I made it with my own two hands. And it actually looks like a decent bag! It truly is a looker!

It might not be the real deal, but it’s got its own charm. And it’s a reminder that sometimes, you just gotta try things out, even if it seems a little crazy. So, if you’re thinking about making something, just go for it. You might surprise yourself. This whole thing, yeah, it was a good time. Learned a lot, messed up a bit, but hey, that’s life, right?
