Alright, let me tell you about this little project I got myself into. I’ve always been a bit of a watch guy, and the Rolex Submariner, especially the no-date version, has always been a dream. But, you know, those things are pricey! So, I thought, why not try making a high imitation myself? I mean, how hard could it be, right? Turns out, it’s a bit of a journey.
Finding the Parts
First off, I needed to gather all the parts. This was a whole adventure on its own. I spent hours, maybe even days, browsing through online forums, and basically anywhere I could find any information about the original order of submariner.
- Case: This was crucial. I needed that iconic Submariner look. I found a 40mm case. Perfect size, you know?
- Movement: The heart of the watch. I managed to find an automatic movement.
- Dial and Hands: I wanted that classic black dial, and finding the right hands was surprisingly tricky. The minute hand on the real Submariner is short, it doesn’t overlap the minute markers, so I made sure to get one just like that.
- Bezel: That rotating bezel with the ceramic insert? Yeah, that’s a must-have. I found one that looked pretty spot-on. It is black and has the markers.
- Bracelet: Got myself a decent stainless steel bracelet.
Putting it Together
Once I had all the bits and pieces, it was time to assemble this bad boy. Now, I’m no watchmaker, but I’m pretty handy. I watched a bunch of videos, read some articles, and basically just dove in.
First, I installed the movement into the case. Then came the dial and the hands. Carefully, very carefully, I put the bezel on. I wanted to get the movement working properly. The last piece of the puzzle was the bracelet.
The Result
After a lot of patience and some very careful work, I finally had my own high imitation Rolex Submariner. And you know what? It looked pretty damn good! It weighed about right, the bezel rotated smoothly, and it kept time like a champ. Of course, it’s not a real Rolex, but it’s a pretty convincing replica, at least to the untrained eye.
It is a pretty fun project. Now I can say that I have a high imitation Rolex Submariner, which is my dream watch, and I made it with my own hands. If you are also a watch lover like me, maybe you can give it a try. But please be very careful during the process!
