Fake OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch: How to Spot a CopyOMEGA Ω Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch (open case back)?

Alright, so I’ve been tinkering with this OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, the one with the open case back, and let me tell you, it’s been a ride.

First off, I tried to see if this thing was legit or not. I mean, you hear all these stories about fake watches, right? So, the first thing I did was pop open the back to take a look at the guts of this thing – the movement. From what I’ve read, the real deal Speedmasters are all mechanical, no batteries in sight. And yep, this one’s got all the tiny gears and springs, ticking away like a tiny, intricate clockwork.

Then, I got to thinking about keeping this beauty running smooth. Now, I’ve heard that you can take these to any watch guy, not just the fancy OMEGA stores. But it seems like only certain types are easy for just anyone to work on. The automatic ones, those are probably best left to the OMEGA folks. I read some forum posts about a guy having trouble winding his Speedmaster, which got me a little worried. But mine seems to be winding just fine, no issues there.

I even stumbled upon another discussion online about someone who thought they got a fake Speedmaster from a place that’s supposed to be all good and trustworthy. Makes you second-guess everything, doesn’t it?

So, here’s what I’ve done:

  • Opened it up to check the movement – definitely mechanical.
  • Looked into servicing – seems like mine can be serviced by independent watchmakers, which is good to know.
  • Checked the winding – no problems there, thankfully.
  • Read up on some stories about fakes – it’s a jungle out there!

It’s been a learning experience, messing around with this watch. Makes you appreciate the craftsmanship, that’s for sure.

Anyway, that’s my little adventure with the Speedmaster Moonwatch so far. It is a good watch for me.
