Okay, so, I got this idea the other day, right? I wanted to try my hand at remaking something really classy, something that’s way out of my league normally. I decided to go for a remake inspired by the Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119R-001. Yeah, I know, it’s a mouthful, and it sounds super fancy, but trust me, the journey was worth it.
First off, I started by looking up this watch. Man, it’s expensive. Like, really expensive. We’re talking “more than my house” kind of expensive. But, it’s also really pretty. I started gathering my materials. This was the fun part. I got some basic watch parts from an old watch I had, it is not useful for me for a long time. I didn’t have any rose gold lying around, which is what the fancy watch is made of, but I found some stuff that looked close enough, it also made by other metal.
Then came the hard part. I spent hours trying to get that “Clous de Paris” pattern right. It’s a kind of bumpy, checkered pattern, and let me tell you, it’s not as easy as it looks. I tried a bunch of different tools and techniques. I even tried using some tools I found in my garage. Finally, after a lot of trial and error, I got something that looked pretty decent.
Putting it all together was another adventure. I’m not a watchmaker, not even close, but I figured, how hard could it be? Turns out, pretty hard. I had to be super careful not to break anything, and it took me a few tries to get everything lined up just right.
But, you know what? I did it. I actually made something that looked like that fancy Patek Philippe watch. It wasn’t perfect, not by a long shot, but it was mine, and I was proud of it.
