So, a few days ago, I got this wild idea. I thought, why not try to remake a Patek Philippe watch? Yeah, I know, it sounds crazy. I’m no expert, not even close. But I’ve always been into taking things apart and putting them back together. And I’ve got a soft spot for those fancy watches. I decided to go for the Gondolo 7041R-001 model, the one you usually only find in those high-end specialty stores. It’s a real looker, mostly aimed at the ladies, with its rectangular shape and that art deco vibe.

First off, I started gathering all the stuff I’d need. I’m talking about basic tools here, nothing too fancy. I did some digging online, trying to find similar-looking parts. It was a bit of a treasure hunt, to be honest. I managed to find some watch cases that had that rectangular, cushion-like shape. Not the same, but close enough. The hands and the dial were a whole other challenge. I had to get creative, using bits and pieces from other old watches I had lying around.

The actual doing part was, well, let’s just say it was interesting. I spent hours trying to get those tiny screws in place. My hands were definitely not steady enough for this kind of work. But I kept at it, taking breaks when I got too frustrated. The dial was probably the trickiest part. I tried to mimic the original design, but it ended up looking more like an, uh, “artistic interpretation,” let’s call it that.

  • Spent days just messing with the watch case.
  • Tried to fit those tiny hands on the dial, nearly lost my mind.
  • Screwed up a few times, had to start over more than I’d like to admit.

It’s Alive!

After what felt like forever, I finally managed to put it all together. It’s not going to win any awards, that’s for sure. And it’s definitely not worth the 30 grand or whatever the real deal costs. But, you know what? It kinda looks like the Gondolo 7041R-001. From a distance. If you squint a little. Okay, maybe not. But it’s got that general feel, that art deco thing going on.

I wore it around the house for a day, just to see how it felt. It’s a bit clunky, and the timekeeping is, shall we say, “flexible.” But I made it! Me! With my own two hands. It’s a pretty cool feeling, I gotta admit.

So, that’s my little adventure with trying to remake a Patek Philippe. It’s not perfect, not even close. But it was a fun ride. And hey, it’s a good reminder that you can do some pretty neat stuff with just a little bit of passion and some basic tools. And maybe a lot of patience. Yeah, definitely a lot of patience.
